SunCal Breaks Ground on Potomac Shores Golf Clubhouse
7,500 square-foot luxury clubhouse to be completed in summer 2013

Dumfries, Va. (December 6, 2012) — SunCal, one of the largest privately owned developers of master-planned and mixed-use communities in the U.S., has broken ground on the new golf clubhouse at Potomac Shores, the resort-residential community in northern Virginia with a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course as its centerpiece. Construction was set in motion by iconic golden shovels breaking the soil to mark the occasion. Prince William County officials and local community representatives received a firsthand look at the clubhouse plans, the development’s vision book and the much-anticipated Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course.

“Jack Nicklaus designed a course that is challenging, fun and set in spectacular surroundings,” said SunCal Senior Vice President David Soyka. “The course’s design has a European flavor to it and features a hardwood forest outline, dramatic vistas, rolling greens and holes along the Potomac River and Powell’s Creek.”

Located 30 miles south of Washington, D.C., the 18-hole course plays between 5,389 and 7,156 yards, with more than 200 feet of elevation changes. The course also features a state-of-the-art driving range and short-game practice area. The golf course and clubhouse will be open for public play and use in summer 2013.

The new 7,500 square-foot clubhouse will be a gracious gathering place inspired by Virginia’s Tidewater architectural tradition with wraparound porches and a carriage house for private events. The clubhouse is designed to resemble a stately Virginia manor in keeping with the over-arching Tidewater theming of the Potomac Shores community.

The golf course is only one of Potomac Shore’s many amenities. There are plans for a five-star resort across from the golf course, a 450-slip marina near the Town Center, dozens of athletic fields and courts throughout the development, two schools and a Virginia Rail Express commuter train station in the Town Center. Miles of hiking and biking trails weave throughout 1,000 acres of the forested property.
